Memphis 901 FC News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC earned their signature win of the young season with a 3-2 comeback victory over Charleston Battery on Saturday night at AutoZone Park
The Beale St. Boys used the Brazilian connection of Bruno Lapa and Rodrigo da Costa to push past Charleston in the 74th minute and earn their seventh victory in the last eight matches.
Memphis showed their dangerous counter attacking ability in the 18th minute as Rodrigo da Costa sent a ball into the box that deflected off of a defender and landed at the feet of Laurent Kissiedou. The forward put Memphis ahead with a one-time right footed finish, tallying his third goal of the season.
Charleston would equalize with a goal of their own eight minutes later, then take the lead in the 34th minute with goals from Fidel Barajas and Roberto Avila.
Memphis tied the score during first half stoppage time after Charleston goalkeeper Trey Muse made an error tracking down a long pass from Graham Smith under pressure from Rashwan Dally, allowing the forward to score his second goal in his second start of the week.
A hard-fought second half shifted in favor of the Beale St. Boys as Bruno Lapa broke free in his first action after being subbed in and fed Rodrigo da Costa for a strike into an empty net to grab the go-ahead score. Da Costa grabbed the team lead with his fifth goal of the season.
Memphis moved up to 8-2-4 with the victory with their unbeaten streak extending to 12 matches, the longest streak in club history. The Beale St. Boys hold the best goal differential in the Eastern Conference this season, outscoring their opponents by 14 goals.
