Oakland Roots News Release

In a tight match that went down to the wire, Oakland Roots drew their western conference rival Phoenix Rising 1-1 in a game where both goals were scored in the last ten minutes.

The match seesawed for both halves, with teams seeing an equal share of possession and similar shot distribution.

Darek Formella likely thought he won the match when he scored in the 82nd minute with a well-struck shot.

In the dying moments of the match, Phoenix Rising swung a cross in and Manuel Arteaga headed it in to salvage a point in stoppage time.

Oakland will be back at Cal State, East Bay on Wednesday, June 27th against Rio Grande Valley, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM PT.

Lots of highs and lows in that one, what'd you think about that second half?

I thought we had a good second half. We got the goal to get ahead. It comes down to some stuff in the box - marking in the box. I thought we played well - good enough to win the game. We're just going to watch film and move on from there.

Three draws in a row - is there anything to adjust to get the winning result?

Yeah, you know, we've been leading in two of those games. Moments of the game, especially when we begin to close out the season - learning how to close out games, starting out well, that's important.
