Memphis 901 FC News Release
Louisville, Ky. - Memphis 901 FC used a last second stoppage time goal from Graham Smith to topple No. 1 Louisville City 2-1 on Friday night at Lynn Family Stadium
The highly contested late season match between the top two teams in the USL resulted in a come-from-behind victory thanks the heroics of Smith, who used a Jeremy Kelly cross to grab three points and bring 901 FC only two points behind the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Memphis stayed on the front foot in the final twenty minutes of the first half after a few strong saves from Trey Muse to start the match. Memphis outshot their opponents 5-4 in the first half while Louisville held 56% of the possession.
Memphis shot out of the gates with a chance at a goal early in the second half just before Louisville responded at the other end with a 47th minute goal from Wilson Harris off an unlucky bounce to make the score 1-0.
901 FC continued to apply pressure to the Louisville defense until a loose ball won by Aaron Molloy found the left foot of Derek Dodson, who put it in the back of the net to even the score in the 61st minute. Dodson's equalizer was his third goal this season.
The two clubs traded scoring chances back and forth until the final seconds of stoppage saw one last chance for Memphis from the corner. After Molloy whipped the ball in, Kelly found space to get a ball in the air for Smith, who rose up to bury the winner and complete the comeback.
Memphis continued their strong run of form away from AutoZone Park moving to 9-2-4 on the road and 19-7-4 overall. 901 FC now sits two points behind Louisville City FC with a match in hand.
Memphis 901 FC's road trip continues with a matchup against Miami FC at Drive Pink Stadium on Saturday, October 1 at 6 p.m. CT.
