Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
CHARLESTON, South Carolina - Rio Grande Valley FC (12-12-6, 42 pts) was led by Christian Pinzon as the forward locked in a brace in the Toros 0-3 win over Charleston Battery (6-19-6, 24 pts) on the road. Pinzon is now the overall scoring leader for RGV FC after reaching seven goals in just ten matches with the club.
Charleston forced the Toros hand defensively in the first half as they shot six times, placing three on target. Tyler Deric made all three saves to avoid surprises and keep the Battery at bay, 0-0.
Back on track, Christian Pinzon delivered a goal of the week candidate strike to the top left of the net as the ball hit the crossbar and went in with power, 0-1, at the 55-minute mark. The goal is Pinzon's sixth goal in ten matches. Emilio Ycaza was credited with the assist as the Ecuadorian midfielder logged his fourth assist on the year.
Ricky Ruiz made a save at the line as he cleared a header from Matt Sheldon which went past a challenging Tyler Deric who left his line, keeping the match at 0-1 Toros.
Pinzon made it two on the night as he locked in a brace at the 76th minute to grow the lead to 0-2 for Rio Grande. His season goal total grew to seven, taking over as scoring leader for RGV FC in just ten matches.
At the 80-minute mark, Juan Pablo Torres scored his first goal of the year after entering the match just minutes prior to make it 0-3 in favor of the visiting Toros to seal the deal.
The Toros are back in action at H-E-B Park on October 1 to host top ranked Louisville FC. The action kicks off at 7:30pm CST. To see more matchday information, visit www.rgvfc.com.
