
Melanson Named Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, NJ - Mathieu Melanson of the Mississippi Sea Wolves is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 3-9. Melanson won the award on Mar. 13, 2007 and on Feb. 20, 2008.
The 23 year old had four goals and seven points to help Mississippi post two wins against ECHL leader Wheeling.
Melanson scored three goals in 4:35 to help the Sea Wolves come from behind for a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday. He tied the game with 24 seconds remaining and then scored the game winner at 2:41 of overtime. He had three points (1g-2a) against Augusta on Nov. 5 and an assist in a 5-4 shootout win against Wheeling on Nov. 7.
The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound forward leads the Sea Wolves and is tied for seventh in the league with 15 points. He also leads the team with eight assists and a plus-minus rating of +7 and is tied for the team lead with seven goals.
Selected in the eighth round (251st overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Melanson was selected to play in the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game and he finished 12th among league rookies with 60 points (30g-30a) in 54 games with Florida and Phoenix. He also played in the AHL where he had one goal and 14 penalty minutes in eight games with Manitoba.
On behalf of Mathieu Melanson, a case of pucks will be donated to a Mississippi area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 20,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
