May 10, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

This is just a friendly reminder that the "Meet the Barons" Blood Drive will be held tomorrow at the Riverchase Galleria next to the foodcourt. Barons players Dennis Ulacia, Neal Cotts and Darron Ingram will be signing autographs and meeting with fans from 11:00 to 12:30 and Brian West, Jake Meyer and Matt Smith will be signing from 12:30 until 2:00. Barons mascot Babe Ruff will also be on hand to meet and greet. The entire blood drive, run by and for the American Red Cross will last from 10:00 AM until 3:30 PM. As part of the event there will also be a chance for donors to register to win a Chicago White Sox autographed baseball as well as a Barons fan package that includes a Barons pennant, Barons baseball cap, four box seat tickets to a Barons regular season home game and a Wally Backman autographed baseball. The American Red Cross is dedicated to saving lives, easing suffering and restoring hope at home and around the world. The Red Cross provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply to patients in 3,000 hospitals nationwide. In Alabama, the Red Cross has supplied blood to Alabama hospitals for nearly 53 years. Locally, the Red Cross supplies blood to over 100 hospitals in Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. To meet blood needs in our region, the Red Cross must collect approximately 850 units of blood a day from volunteer blood donors. Eligible blood donors are encouraged to donate every 56 days.

To learn more about donating blood go to www.redcrossalabama.org. Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE today to schedule your lifesaving donation or to sponsor a blood drive.
