Barons Sweep Suns with 3-2 Win

May 10, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Barons continued their winning ways as they beat the Jacksonville Suns 3-2 on Friday night in front of 7,967 fans at the Hoover Met. The victory completes the sweep of the Suns and gives the Barons a season-high five game winning-streak and marks the teams eighth straight win at home.

Barons starter Enemencio Pacheco (3-0) tossed a season-high 7.2 innings and struck out a season-high six batters in the triumph as he continued to impress since moving from the bullpen and into the rotation part way into the season. His only blemish on the night was a two-run homer by Jacksonville outfielder Reggie Abercrombie in the fifth that ended up being the only runs the Suns could muster.

Birmingham pieced together their three runs by plating single tallies in the first, fifth and seventh innings. Darron Ingram singled home Chad Durham in the first, and knocked in Danny Sandoval in the third with a groundout to shortstop that tied the game at two all. The Barons would take the lead in the seventh against Suns reliever Scott Proctor (1-2) on a Ryan Hankins sacrifice fly that allowed Durham to score the go ahead run from third.

Royce Ring closed out the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season in seven chances and extended his scoreless inning streak to 12.1 innings.

The Barons look to keep the winning-streak alive as they take on the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in a four-game set with the first game tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM. Birmingham will send out LHP Dennis Ulacia (0-4, 4.65) to face West Tennessee's LHP Aaron Krawiec (3-2, 3.28).
