Huntsville Stars News Release

Huntsville, AL - Huntsville Stars' starting pitcher Mike Jones was honored as the BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week for May 2-8.

Jones received the award after an impressive outing on May 2 at Joe Davis Stadium against the Chattanooga Lookouts. The 6-foot-4 right-hander shackled the Lookouts for seven innings to record his third straight win and fourth in his last five starts.

Jones gave up no runs on two hits while striking out a season-high eight and walking one. Ranked by Baseball America as the second-best prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization, the 20-year-old was selected in the first round (12th overall) in the June 2001 draft.

Jones (4-1, 3.03) pitches Saturday night when Huntsville opens a four-game series against the Tennessee Smokies at Joe Davis Stadium. Jones meets Tennessee righty Nick Stocks (3-0, 3.00) at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans receive Stars mini-bats courtesy of Woody Anderson Ford.
