Motor City Mechanics News Release
MOLINE, IL- The Motor City Mechanics looked to start another winning streak against the Quad City Mallards at the Mark of the Quad Cities in front of 3,567 fans, but fall short in a tight game losing 2-1.
In the first period Greg Bullock (3) tallied a power play goal to take the 1-0 lead over the Mallards. The goal at 16:49 was assisted by Scott Dobben (4) and Matt Smith (2). Both teams tallied eight shots a piece in the first period.
The Mallards came to life in the second period as they would go on to score two straight goals; both on the power play. After three consecutive Mechanics penalties the Mallards would convert as they had a two-man advantage for almost three minutes. At 16:37, Chad Woollard would tally the game tying goal and at 18:35 Anthony Blummer would score the go ahead goal. Through two periods of play the Mallards would tally 21 shots to just 16 Mechanics shots.
No goals were scored in the third period, as both teams tightened up the defense. However, the Mechanics could not muster a goal but did manage to outshoot the Mallards 24 to 23, as they limited the Mallards third period chances to just two.
Rod Branch made the start in goal for the eighth time in the past nine games. Branch finished with 21 saves on just 23 Mallards shots.
The Mechanics return home Saturday night November 12th when the Missouri River Otters come to town. Saturday is also a Veterans Day Jersey Auction and Rally Towel giveaway presented by Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery and TCF Bank. The Mechanics will be wearing special Veterans Day Jerseys in honor of all of the Armed Forces and immediately following the game the jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Michigan Veterans Foundation.
