Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), battled throughout the game to fend off the visiting Adirondack Frostbite, but fell short as Adirondack goaltender Derek Gustafson made 34 saves in front of the net to give the Frostbite a 4-2 win .

Adirondack took the lead early, getting first period goals from Lyon Porter and Pierre-Luc Leblond. The Vipers answered with two in the second period at 9:10 as Josh Tataryn made a big stretch to flip the puck over the shoulder of Gustafson, and again at 16:45 as Crusco netted a shot unassisted. Crusco and Rico Fatticci were each credited with assists on Tataryn's goal. The Vipers held on until the 11:24 mark of the third period when Frostbite newcomer Mark Hurtubise fired a shot past the reach of Jamie Hodson. The Vipers strove to regain even numbers on the scoreboard, but could not convert on the power play, as they went 0-for-7 on the night. Hodson was pulled in favor of an extra attacker with a minute remaining, but the weary Vipers lost control of the puck, and Porter scored his second goal of the evening, to eliminate Roanoke's hopes of tying the match.

The Vipers, whose record falls again to the .500 mark at 4-4-0 (8 points), will look to even the season series with Adirondack Saturday night at 7:35p.m. as the Frostbite return for game two at the Roanoke Civic Center. Saturday is Jefferson College of Health Sciences Puck Giveaway Night - the first 1000 fans through the doors will receive a JCHS/Roanoke Valley Vipers collector's puck.
