Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Defenseman Nathan Lutz returned to the Rockford IceHogs lineup on Friday night and helped spark the Hogs to a 5-2 win over the Flint Generals in front of 4,397 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Lutz scored two of Rockford's three goals in the first 2:17 of the third period to vault them into the lead.
The Hogs and Generals traded goals in the first two periods. Just 16 seconds into the game, winger Jason Notermann beat Flint goalie Peter Brady to give the Hogs a 1-0 advantage. The Generals tied it at the 16:48 mark when Jason Selleke was set up perfectly by Leo Thomas.
In the second frame, rookie center Yannick Tifu sniped home his fourth goal of the season past Brady at 10:11 while the IceHogs skated on the power play. Flint bounced back at 13:41 to tie the score at 2-2. Thomas broke in all alone on Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel to net the equalizer.
Rockford didn't waste any time breaking the game open in the third frame. Lutz put Rockford ahead for good 32 into the period with a power play goal. Lutz then provided the Hogs with some insurance with his second tally of the night at 1:33. Rookie winger Chaz Johnson completed the scoring at 2:17, knocking one past Brady for the 5-2 lead.
Vogel picked up his fifth win of the season, turning away 32 shots. Brady played solid for Flint, blocking 40 Rockford attempts, but was given the loss. Rockford finished the contest 2-for-9 on the power play while holding the Generals to 0-for-10 on the advantage. Rockford tied a club record with their sixth straight home win.
