Motor City Mechanics News Release
REDFORD, MICH. â Approaching the start of October training camp, the Motor City Mechanics sign two veteran playersâ center Joe Burton of Garden City, Mich. and promising defenseman Kevin Hansen. Both were signed to one-year contracts bringing the total number of Mechanics players under contract to six.
"The UHL is a tough and competitive league and the season can get very long," said Head Coach Garry Unger. "Having experience and leadership on the ice are going to be critical to our success. I'm excited to bring in Kevin and Joe who each bring both to the team."
At 5' 9" and 170 lbs., Joe Burton, a former University of Michigan-Dearborn and Central Hockey League (CHL) standout, joins the Mechanics after a one-year hiatus from the ice. Burton a two-time Bill Levins MVP Trophy winner, will be a big part of an offense-driven Mechanics' squad this season. During his 11 seasons with the Oklahoma City Blazers, Burton averaged more than 51 goals. After Burton left the CHL in 2003, the league created the Burton Trophy, which is awarded annually to the league's top point producer.
Originally from Hamburg, NY, Kevin Hansen brings over 12 years of hockey experience to the Mechanics. The 6'1" and 210 lb. Hansen was once invited to the Detroit Red Wings training camp and earned his biggest accolades during the 2002-03 season when he won the 7th Man Award and CHL Governor's Cup while with the Odessa Jackalopes. Last year he played for the OHA Sr Tillsonburg Vipers.
Both new signees will be available to meet and sign autographs at Hockey Fest 2004. Hockey Fest is three-day kick-off celebration announcing the start of the Mechanics' inaugural season. For more information on Hockey Fest, call (866) 997-PUCK or visit www.motorcitymechanics.com.
