SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, scored the game's only tally on a home run by Nolan Meadows in the ninth inning for a 1-0 win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Saturday night at Boomers Stadium.
Pitchers ruled as Belters starter Max Homick kept the Boomers off the board in his six innings with five hits, five walks and six strikeouts. Boomers starter, Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Kagen Hopkins, also gave up five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Meadows registered the game's only run on his 11th home run of the season with two outs in the ninth inning, a drive that cleared the right center field fence.
Mike Ellwood worked two innings of relief to earn his first professional victory. Derek DeYoung (0-2) pitched the ninth inning and took the loss. Francisco Carillo struck out the side in the ninth inning for his third save.
The series concludes Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in Schaumburg as the Belters send right-hander Horatio Acosta (3-2, 3.68 ERA) to the mound while the Boomers give the ball to righty Seth Webster (4-3, 4.57).
