Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL- It was a slow offensive game for both teams, but the Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy were able to hold off the Windy City ThunderBolts for a 1-0 victory Friday night.
Joliet got a great start from starting pitcher Shane Bryant who went seven innings giving up zero runs on five hits. Bryant (2-1) would strike out six and allowed one walk in his third start of the season.
Both teams combined for a total of 12 hits, but a Hunter Ridge's RBI on a fielder's choice was the difference.
Windy City (22-21) continued to struggle at the plate, as they left six runners in scoring position.
Windy City is now 2-8 over their last ten, and are on a seven game losing streak.
The ThunderBolts did not go down easy as they loaded the bases in the top of the ninth.
Joliet reliever Kevin Simmons would come in for the two out save and pick up his third save of the season.
The Slammers (26-17) are now 13-5 at Silver Cross Field, 11-2 over their last thirteen home games.
Windy City starter Brady Muller (1-4) had a nice game, but gave up the lone Joliet run in the bottom of the second. Muller would last five and two-thirds innings giving up the one run on five hits.
The Slammers and ThunderBolts will play game two of the series at 6:05pm Saturday.
