Brockton Rox News Release
Worcester, MA (June 24, 2007) - RHP Mike McTamney tossed a complete- game shutout, limiting the Worcester Tornadoes to just five baserunners while picking up his first Rox win in a 3-0 victory for the Rox before 2,393 at Hanover Insurance Park in Worcester. McTamney retired the final 11 batters of the game, allowing just four hits and a walk in the contest while striking out six in a 126-pitch performance. 1B Francisco Lebron homered and scored two runs for the Rox in the win, as Brockton took a series win for the first time in two weeks.
In the first inning, the Rox took the lead which they never reliquished. After Worcester starter LHP Mike Meagher issued three walks, C Jason Radwan made him pay with an RBI single to center to give the Rox a 1-0 lead. After the first, Meagher settled in, and he and McTamney begin their duel. At one point, Meagher retired 12 in a row, giving up a single to C Lee Rubin in the fifth to end the long streak. In the sixth, Lebron tattooed a 0-1 pitch on a line over the center field wall for his fifth HR of the year, a solo shot giving the Rox a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Tornadoes put two on against McTamney and had the go-ahead run at the plate with C Yohanny Valera. Valera struck out swinging on three pitches to end the threat. SS Lino Mariot's eighth inning RBI single, driving home SS Fredy De La Cruz to capping a two-run rally gave Brockton and McTamney an 3-0 cushion heading into the ninth
McTamney worked quickly in the ninth to retire all three batters, polishing off the first complete-game shutout of the season for the Rox pitching staff. The Rox are 14-16 heading into an off day on Monday. They take on the North Shore Spirit on Tuesday evening at 7:05 PM with RHP John Kelly (2-1, 1.93 ERA) toeing the rubber for the Rox.
