Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â Wide receiver/linebacker Leroy McFadden and offensive/defensive lineman Lemont Williams have been named Players of the Week by both the Fox Hole Fan Club and the Charleston Swamp Foxes' front office.
This is the third time this season that McFadden has been selected by the fan club, and his fourth weekly honor overall. For Williams, it is his first player of the week mention and only the second-time this season a lineman has been tabbed.
Swamp Foxes' atypical receiver Leroy McFadden (6-3, 260) entered Friday's game at Bossier City 10 points shy of breaking Charleston's single-season scoring record and two touchdowns shy of tying the team's season mark for TDs. In the winning effort, he tallied a pair of scores for 12 points to tie one record and set another.
McFadden tied the team record for touchdowns in a single-season and broke the mark for points scored by a single player. He currently stands tied with former Fox Demayne Reeder with 27 touchdowns on the season, and is two points ahead of Reeder's old single-season record of 170 points. McFadden now finds himself two scores shy of the career points record and five touchdowns short of the Foxes' career TD record.
Defensively versus the Battle Wings, McFadden intercepted his second pass of the season, returning the pick 29 yards setting up a Rob Bironas field goal midway through the first quarter helping him earn the game's Ironman Award.
In only his second game as a Swamp Fox, rookie lineman Lemont Williams helped anchor a defensive line that harassed Bossier City quarterback Payton Perrett all night. The pressure up front forced the rookie signal caller to commit five turnovers -- four INTs and one fumble.
Williams registered a pair of solo stops, including two tackles for 19 yards in losses and a sack on Perrett of 15 yards. Williams also recovered a Perrett fumble, which was forced by teammate Preston Vinson, and batted a pass down at the line of scrimmage.
The Swamp Foxes return home for the final two home games of the 2003 season, the first of which is this Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 pm at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Foxes play host to the Columbus Wardogs, a team they bested by 16 in the two teams' first meeting back in early May.
Festivities kick off with the Tailgate Zone, featuring live music from the group "Flat Front Tire," face painting, balloons, and jump castles starting at 5:00 pm.
