Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Former Charleston Swamp Foxes lineman Antoinne Scott, a two-year arenafootball2 veteran, was signed by the Arizona Rattlers on Tuesday. Scott played the second-half of the 2003 season with the Swamp Foxes along the offensive and defensive front.

As per RattlersÂ’ team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Scott becomes the third player from the Swamp FoxesÂ’ 2003 roster to make the move to the Arena Football League. He joins WR/DB Michael Brown who signed with the Orlando Predators and kicker Rob Bironas, who signed with the Carolina Cobras.

Scott appeared in eight games for the Swamp Foxes during the record setting 9-7 season. He tallied 13 total tackles, three of which were unassisted, including three for loss and a pair of sacks. Scott ranked fifth out of all the FoxesÂ’ linemen despite only playing half of the allotted 16 games.

The Memphis, TN native also tallied a safety in 2003, tackling Norfolk’s Chris Morant following a fumble in the Nighthawks end zone during Charleston ’s 68-44 dismantling of the ‘Hawks at home.

“Antoinne Scott was one of our mid-season acquisitions that helped us make a run at the team’s first playoff berth,” said Swamp Foxes head coach Rik Richards. “He is a solid athlete along the line who helped with our pass protection and pressure on opposing quarterbacks. But he is also a genuinely great individual and I’m happy that he’ll receive a shot to make it at the next level.

The 6-2, 277-pound lineman played the 2002 season for the Memphis Xplorers, also of the af2. While in Memphis, Scott totaled six total tackles, including one for loss and a sack, in six games of action. He also recorded his first career safety while with the Xplorers.

Prior to making the move indoors, Scott was with the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization of the CFL in 2001. He played collegiate football in the SEC as a defensive tackle for the University of Mississippi where he played with current New Orleans SaintsÂ’ running back, Deuce McAllister.

Since the team’s inception in 1992, the Arizona Rattlers have appeared in four ArenaBowl championship games, including making it to the finals each of the past two seasons. The Rattlers have won the AFL’s championship twice – in 1994 and 1997.

Arizona kicks off the 2004 Arena Football season on Sunday, February 8 when they play host to Western Division rival, the Los Angeles Avengers in Phoenix.
