Steamwheelers Announce DeckMates Tryout Dates

DAVENPORT, Iowa â With the 2004 Quad City Steamwheelers season just five months away, many steps are being taken in preparation for the upcoming season. One of those steps was made today with the announcement of the dates for the 2004 DeckMates Cheerleaders tryouts.
The preliminary tryouts will be held from 6:30-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5th and Monday, November 10th at the YMCA located at 606 West Second Street in Davenport. Those looking to tryout for the DeckMates may attend either one of the preliminary tryouts, but not both.
The final tryout competition will be held from 7:00-10:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14th at Lucky's in the Steeplegate Inn, located at 100 W. 76th St. in Davenport. The final tryout competition at Lucky's will be open to the public.
In order to try out, you must be at least 20 years old by April 2004, possess an outgoing, self-confident attitude and ability to work with the public in a positive, enthusiastic basis. Good oral communication skills to compliment good cheerleading skills and a positive appearance and presentation are of equal importance.
Good cheerleading skills are necessary, advanced dance skills are a plus, but not required. Being selected to the 2004 DeckMate Squad is a prestigious opportunity reserved for an elite group of women in the Quad City area. DeckMates are paid for their game performances and many of their other public appearances.
Appropriate dress for the tryout consists of black, navy or gray sports bras and shorts, no baggy shorts or tops. You also must wear proper dance shoes, or white or black tennis shoes. Hair must be pulled halfway back and you must look clean and professional.
The Steamwheelers are coming off a 14-2 regular season and a National Conference regular season championship. They are reloading and ready to take care of unfinished business in 2004. Likewise the team plans to field a top flight cheerleading squad to compliment the 2004 team.
