Steamwheelers Announce Open Tryouts

January 22, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

January 23, 2009, (Moline, Ill.) - The Quad City Steamwheelers are closing in on the 2009 season at a rapid pace as they announce their final Open Tryout to be held on Saturday, February 28th 2009. Steamwheelers head coach, Troy Biladeau, has assembled arguably one of the most competitive rosters in the af2 and he'll be searching for that ‘diamond in the rough' type talent from this workout to complete his training camp roster.

"We've actually been pretty fortunate with our Open Tryouts," explained coach Biladeau. "We had two fullback/linebackers on our team last year that came from our tryouts. We usually bring a couple into camp with us every year, it all depends on the openings we feel we have and the talent that shows up to work out."

The timing of the workout is perfect as players won't have to wait around for the phone to ring.

"Our training camp starts on March 7th," Biladeau continued. "The timing for this really works out well so when we have the tryouts, we'll review tape and make our decisions and then bring anyone we may sign right into camp a week later."

The Steamwheelers are looking for guys who have a great attitude, outstanding skills, and a strong passion for winning. If you think you have what it takes to be an Arena Football player for the Steamwheelers, then contact Darrick Reeves at the teams' office, (309) 797-8500 and get signed up in advance.

All players will be required to perform the following:

40-yd Dash (linemen will do a 20-yard dash) 20-yd Shuttle Run 220-lb Bench Press Long Jump Agility Drills One-on-One Drills Three-on-Three Drills

Cost of registration is $40 in advance or $60 at the door. Players are encouraged to wear workout clothing and plastic cleats/shoes appropriate for synthetic turf.

The Open Tryouts will be held at the OS Sports Complex (a.k.a. The Bubble), 5003 North Brady Street - Davenport (IA) starting at 7:00 PM. Pre-registration starts at 6:00 PM.

The Steamwheelers open their 10th season on Sunday, March 29th at the iwireless Center in Moline, IL with a 3:05 PM kickoff against division rivals, Peoria. Season tickets are on sale at the teams' new offices located in Southpark Mall - 4500 16th Street, Moline, next to Chick-Fil-A.
