Steamwheelers Intrasquad Scrimmage Announced

March 17, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2) - Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

Moline (IL) - It seems like it has been forever since the Steamwheelers hung up their cleats after a disappointing loss in the first round of the playoffs last year, but after a feverish recruiting campaign and two weeks of battling for position, the 2009 Steamwheelers camp combatants will put it all out on the line to prove they should make the final 22-man roster when they compete in an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday.

"These guys have been going at it pretty hard since the first day we put on the pads," said head coach, Troy Biladeau. "I have some very tough decisions to make, I don't think I've ever seen the level of talent and competitive nature as what we've got here with these guys. So we are going to line 'em up and let 'em go at it in a formal scrimmage."

Coach Biladeau has to trim his roster to the league minimum by 2:00 PM Monday.

Fans will be able to take in the event which will be at the OS Sports Complex, or the Bubble, on Friday, March 20th starting at 7:30 PM. There is a $2 admission fee that will be used to help offset some costs associated with the scrimmage.

The hype has been the Steamwheelers have one of the best teams on paper and so far in camp, that claim has held up. This will be the only opportunity for the fans and the public to see the 10th Anniversary team prior to opening night.

The Steamwheelers kick off their 10th season at the i wireless Center on Sunday, March 29th with a 3:05 PM kickoff. Former Steamwheelers owner and Arena Football Founder, Jim Foster, will bring in his new team, the Peoria Pirates to battle the 'Wheelers. Single game tickets are available now at all TicketMaster outlets and the i wireless Center Box Office. Group tickets and season tickets are available at the team office in SouthPark Mall, Moline or call (309) 797-8500.
