Mohegan Wolves News Release

(NEW LONDON, CT) – The Mohegan Wolves, the second-place team (9-5) in the American Northeast Division of arenafootball2, announced today that its Friday evening, July 18th game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will also be, “Labor and Legislators’ Night.

While the Wolves are busy battling their way to the playoffs, this FridayÂ’s game is part of the teamÂ’s ongoing campaign to nurture and deepen community roots, as they take a night out to salute local labor and legislators.

The Southeastern Connecticut Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO) is making a special push for its members to attend the game.

Southeastern Connecticut Labor Council President Wayne Burgess said, “We thank the Wolves organization for their support of local labor, and wish them well. Arena Football is fast-paced and exciting, with a growing fan base. Along with a number of corporate, military and community groups, our members have enjoyed discounts on tickets all year, and we’re pleased to see the Wolves heading for the playoffs.

“Our members,” Burgess continued, “do everything from designing and building submarines, to fighting fires, to package/ground delivery, and construction. When we help them, we help us all.

Connecticut State Comptroller Nancy Wyman will officiate at the coin toss ceremony, accompanied by Connecticut legislators.

Comptroller Wyman said, “The state of Connecticut is proud to support the Mohegan Wolves. Arena Football is a budding new sport and business venture that we hope will succeed and prosper here, providing entertainment and creating jobs, opportunities and revenues for the state. And besides, the Wolves are our football home team. As I’m sure my colleagues in the legislature will agree, if you root for Connecticut, you have to root for the Wolves.

Mohegan Wolves Vice President Angelo Mazzella said, “We are very pleased at the support our team has received from local labor, legislators, and top officials in state government. It’s beginning to show at the box office. And our team, in second place, is facing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, who just upset the number one team in the division, the Albany Conquest. So this game on July 18th promises to be very competitive and exciting.

“And as an added attraction,“ Mazzella continued, “we are going to have the fabulous Chantele Douchette, the Star Search Grand Prize Winner, sing the National Anthem and entertain us all with a halftime performance.
