Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The kind of news Steamwheelers fans love to hear came once again. For the sixth time this season a Quad City Steamwheelers player was named as one of the af2's weekly award winners. DS Asa Francis earned his second league honor as he was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week.

Francis had two sacks, 4.5 tackles, three tackles for a loss and a QB hurry last Saturday night against the San Diego Riptide. The two sacks propelled him into the league lead with 11.5 on the season, tied with Mohegan's Charlie Cook.

Francis also earned the honor two weeks ago in Week 14 with his af2 record five-sack performance against the Hawaiian Islanders.

The other ‘Wheelers who have received a weekly league honor are OS Ira Gooch and WR/DB Jeff Hewitt. Gooch won the honor for Offensive Player of the Week in Weeks 7 and 8, the first time ever that any af2 player had won any award in back-to-back weeks.

Hewitt won his first award as the Offensive Player of the Week in Week 3 and earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 10.

The Steamwheelers are preparing for the "Biggest Game in af2 History" against their archrival Tennessee Valley Vipers, this Saturday night at The MARK of the Quad Cities. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear red.

Tickets are brisk and ahead of any other game so far this season. Tickets can be purchased at The MARK box office or through TicketMaster at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 563.326.1111.
