
McDade and Burns Double in 4-0 Loss

MANCHESTER, NH---Mike McDade and Andy Burns delivered doubles and the Fisher Cats bullpen worked four hitless innings but New Britain won the rubber game of the series with a 4-0 win on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
For the Rock Cats (45-45), RHP Virgil Vasquez pitched a complete game five-hitter, his first shutout in seven years. He allowed five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight. He retired the first 12 Fisher Cats before McDade's double leading off the bottom of the fifth inning.
New Britain scored in the first inning for the fourth consecutive game. Mike Kvasnicka doubled and scored on a single by Aaron Hicks to put the Rock Cats up 1-0.
Kennys Vargas lined a homer to right-center in the top of the fourth inning. His 15th of the season came off starting and losing pitcher Matt Boyd (0-3). Boyd allowed four runs in five innings. He struck out four.
The Rock Cats plated the other two runs in the top of the fifth inning on Kvasnicka's second double, which came with the bases loaded.
Blake McFarland worked three innings in relief for the Fisher Cats (43-48) without allowing a hit. Scott Gracey pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats open a five-game series in Portland on Friday night at 7:00p.m. RHP Scott Copeland (5-6, 4.28) starts for New Hampshire against RHP Jeremy Kehrt (0-0, 2.45) for the Sea Dogs. Portland will visit the Fisher Cats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium after the All-Star Break.
