Altoona Curve News Release
Curve, Pa. - Altoona surrendered 16 hits en route to a 12-6 loss to the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Curve starter Joan Montero labored through two innings and ultimately took the loss as the Curve wrapped up their homestand with four wins and four losses.
Montero (3-4) surrendered five runs on five hits with four walks over his two innings of work and suffered the loss. After Montero left the game, the Howlers continued their barrage of runs by scoring three more against Nate Baker, three against Emmanuel de Leon, and one against Andy Vasquez.
The Curve picked up their first run of the game on an RBI fielder's choice by Willy Garcia in the fourth inning after Stetson Allie led off the frame with a double. Allie was an integral part of the second run in the game with an RBI single in the fifth that scored Drew Maggi. At the time of Allie's run-scoring single, the SeaWolves led 8-2.
In the sixth, Altoona managed to cut the Erie lead in half. After Carlos Paulino singled, he scored two batters later on a Gift Ngoepe two-run blast to left. However, Erie continued to collect runs and tallied three more in seventh to take an 11-4 lead.
Altoona plated their final runs in the seventh with Allie playing a key part of it all again. The first baseman collected a single, his third hit of the game, and later scored on a bases loaded walk by Paulino. With the bases still juiced, Vasquez hit a sacrifice fly that plated Dan Gamache to make the score 11-6. Erie put their final run on the board in the ninth with Vasquez pitching.
Erie starter Tommy Collier (4-7) earned the win after he held Altoona to two runs over five innings.
With the homestand concluded, the Curve will embark on a four day, five-game road trip a couple hours east to Harrisburg and battle the Senators. The Curve recently swept the Nationals' Double-A affiliate in the first three games of the homestand.
Altoona will have a starter to be determined in Friday's series opener at Metro Bank Park while the Senators are scheduled to send RHP Brian Dupra (1-3, 5.01). First pitch in Harrisburg will be at 7 p.m. while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The Curve will return to Peoples Natural Gas Field on July 17 immediately following the Eastern League All-Star Stop Presented by UPMC Health Plan. Tickets for the All-Star festivities and upcoming homestand are still available by calling 877.99.CURVE, visiting AltoonaCurve.com, or by stopping by the box office at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
