BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets completed a four-game sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs and moved within four games of first place with a 13-3 victory on Thursday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. In front of a season-high home crowd of 5,906, the B-Mets pounded out eleven hits, including five for extra-bases, in their largest win of the season.

Binghamton got on the board in the second inning against Luis Diaz. Taijeron walked and Brandon Nimmo singled with one-out to put two on for Xorge Carrillo. The catcher smacked a double down the left-field line to score both runners. Carrillo moved to third base on single by Rylan Sandoval and scored when Diaz threw the ball away on an attempted pick-off. Sandoval went to third on the play. Dilson Herrera hit a sacrifice fly to center field that drove in Sandoval for the 4-0 Binghamton lead.

Portland didn't get to Steven Matz through the first four innings. The lefty retired the initial twelve batters he faced before giving up a lead-off double to Sean Coyle in the fifth. Keury De La Cruz connected on a two-out single to bring the runner home and make the score 4-1.

The road team cut into the Binghamton lead again in the sixth. Heiker Menesses singled and Peter Hissey walked to start things off. The runners moved up a bag on a sacrifice bunt by Shannon Wilkerson. Blake Swihart came through with an two RBI double to drive Matz from the game and file down the deficit to 4-3.

The B-Mets blew the game open in the seventh against Robby Scott. Kyle Johnson and Herrera hit-back-to-back singles to start the frame. Brian Burgamy then grounded to short, but the ball was bobbled by Menesses and everyone was safe. Dustin Lawley hit a sacrifice fly center field to bring home Johnson. With one out, Ceciliani tripled to right-center field to clear the bases. The next batter, Taijeron, doubled to left-field, Ceciliani came home and Binghamton took an 8-3 lead.

The offense continued in the eighth. Michael Olmstead issued free passes to Sandoval and Johnson to put two one with nobody out. Lawley hit a ground ball that went through the legs of the third baseman, Almanzar Both runners scored on the error. After a Ceciliani single, Taijeron hooked a three-run home run inside the right-field pole to cap off the Binghamton scoring and make the score 13-3.

Matz (2-1) went 5-1/3 innings, allowed three runs and struck out five. Diaz (3-2) gave up four runs (three earned) in 5-2/3 frames and struck out nine. Jack Leathersich and Chase Huchingson kept Portland at bay with a combined 2-2/3 scoreless innings. Cody Satterwhite struck out the side in the ninth to nail down the victory.

The B-Mets (55-37) hit the road to start a series against the Erie SeaWolves on Friday at 7:05 PM. RHP Tyler Pill rainy Lara takes the hill for Binghamton against a pitcher to be announced for Erie.
