Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, shared today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Ryan McCleary to the Rose City for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
McCleary, 18, attended the first days of training camp with his new club this month in Pennsylvania. The native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan was selected by the Penguins in the seventh round of this summer's 2021 NHL Draft (#194 overall).
In his WHL rookie season, the right-handed blueliner totaled seven points in 18 games.

The Portland Winterhawks begin their 46th season of play on October 1 and will host Seattle on October 2 for the team's Pacific Office Automation home opener.
