Oklahoma City Comets News Release

After a 44-minute rain delay Tuesday night at Isotopes Park, Lucas May poured it on the opposition with some explosive offense, belting two homers and driving in a career-high six to help lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (38-38) to a 14-5 thrashing of the Memphis Redbirds (42-36).

After spotting Memphis a 3-0 first-inning lead, the ‘Topes responded immediately with five in the bottom of the frame. Russell Mitchell and Jamie Hoffmann put the ‘Topes on the board with back-to-back RBI singles before May, who went 4-for-5 on the night, jacked a three-run home run that cleared the bases and put the Isotopes ahead 5-3.

In fact, Albuquerque beat up Memphis pitching all night. The ‘Topes had eight hits on the ‘Birds starting pitcher Lance Lynn pushing across seven runs on the right-hander, all earned, over three innings of work. Reliever Chuckie Fick, who replaced Lynn in the fourth, didn't fare much better, also giving up eight hits that helped cash in six earned runs in three innings.

In a Major League Rehab stint with the ‘Topes, Carlos Monasterios pitched 3.2 innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits and struck out four batters. The right-hander was limited to throwing 82 pitches on the night, 52 of which went for strikes.

The ‘Topes catcher added his second home run of the evening in his next at-bat in the third, crushing a lead-off solo homer to make the score 6-3 before Chin-lung Hu roped a double, stole third, and scored on an RBI groundout by Monasterios to increase the home team's lead to 7-3.

Memphis scratched across two runs in the fourth to draw within 7-5, but the Isotopes immediately put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Xavier Paul got the hit-parade started with a solo homer to lead off the frame before Hoffmann added a two-run double and came around to score on a single by May to give Albuquerque an 11-5 lead after just four frames.

May was an integral part of another Isotopes rally in the sixth, hitting an RBI double and scoring on a pinch-hit triple by Michael Restovich to bolster the home team's lead to 13-5.

Jay Gibbons capped the scoring in the seventh, hammering a solo homer of his, Albuquerque's fourth round-tripper of the evening, to send the Isotopes cruising to a 14-5 win.

The Isotopes go for a series split on Tuesday matinee behind lefty Alberto Bastardo (2-0, 4.34), who will take on ‘Birds right-hander Dave Kopp (0-1, 5.40) in a 12:05 PM afternoon start from The Lab.

Albuquerque wraps up its series with the Redbirds with a Business-Person's special on Tuesday that features a 12:05 PM first pitch. The ‘Topes will get a much-deserved day off on Wednesday before resuming their homestand with three games over Independence Day weekend with the Oklahoma City RedHawks. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
