A pair of five-run innings spelled doom for the Round Rock Express in an 11-2 loss Monday night against the Nashville Sounds at Herschel Greer Stadium. The Sounds (42-36) lead the series 2-1, while the Express (35-44) still lead the season series 7-4.

The blight began early for the Express as each of the first five Nashville batters hit safely and all five scored. It marked the most runs allowed in a first inning this season by Round Rock and matched the most runs allowed by the Express staff in any inning. Norris Hopper and Brendan Katin had RBI singles, and Joe Koshansky's three-run homer capped the frame.

That was all the run support Nashville starter Sam Narron (2-3) would need. He worked 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts. David Johnson pitched the final two frames without allowing a run on one hit with one strikeout.

Express starter Andy Van Hekken, who notched a complete-game victory in his last start, took the loss. Van Hekken (4-5) allowed six runs on seven hits and no walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings, settling down after the rocky start.

Round Rock got back in the game with two runs on three hits in the fifth. David Cook plated the first run on a sacrifice fly, and Brian Esposito added an RBI single.

Nashville quickly responded in the bottom of the inning as Trent Oeltjen led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a balk and scored on Mat Gamel's sacrifice fly. The Sounds put the game away with five runs on five hits and an Express error in the seventh. Hopper had the big hit in the inning, a two-run single. Johnny Raburn concluded the scoring with an RBI double.

Esposito, Matt Kata and Ramon Vazquez all had two-hit nights for the Express. Drew Locke (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to seven games and has hit safely in 11 of the last 12. Tommy Everidge (0-for-4) was held hitless for the first time in five games with the Express; he had produced multiple hits in each of the first four.

Round Rock and Nashville conclude their four-game series Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Herschel Greer Stadium. Right-hander Shane Loux (2-4, 6.21 ERA) starts for the Express, while right-hander Marty McLeary (1-6, 12.14) gets the nod for the Sounds.
