Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem and the Peoria Rivermen faced off in a wild game at the Macon Coliseum. The Mayhem came away with a 2-1 overtime win off of a controversial ending.
The first two periods were played with no score on the board, as neither team could find the back of the net. Both goaltenders, Macon's Jordan Ruby and Peoria's Tyler Green were outstanding. Ruby had 26 saves and Green tallied 24 saves through two periods.
The third period produced one goal for each team. Collin MacDonald opened up the scoring with a shot from the high slot. A couple minutes later, Rivermen forward Dmitri Ognev tied the game up. The game would head to overtime tied at 1-1.
Chaos would ensue in overtime, as Stephen Pierog took a shot that went off the crossbar. About 20 seconds later, Dmitri Ognev scored what he thought was his second of the game for a game winner, but there would be some controversy. After discussing with the linesmen and goal judge, the referee awarded the goal to Pierog, and the Macon Mayhem would come away with a 2-1 win in overtime.
