Mississippi RiverKings News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- The Mississippi RiverKings (3-1-0) tallied two unanswered power play goals late in the second period as they earned a weekend split with a 4-2 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz (3-1-0) on Saturday night in Fayetteville.
The teams traded goals within nine seconds of each other in the opening frame. Ryan Salkeld gave the FireAntz the lead as he swatted the puck out of midair past goaltender Brad Barone 11:30 into the opening frame. The RiverKings struck back seconds later when Dylan Fox's shot beat Sean Bonar's blocker to tie the game at one.
In the second, the RiverKings took their first lead of the game with Cullen Bradshaw's shot from the blueline that beat a screened Bonar to put the RiverKings up 2-1 just over 2:30 into the middle frame.
Three minutes later, Fayetteville countered. With the man-advantage, Brad Drobot collected his own rebound and poked the puck past the glove of Barone to tie the game at two.
The RiverKings then scored a pair of power play goals. Ryan Marcuz deflected a Devin Mantha shot from the left-wing circle past Bonar to give the RiverKings a 3-2 lead 7:38 into the second. With 1:05 left in the third, Mike Moran's slap shot from just inside the blueline found the back of the net, giving the RiverKings a 4-2 lead that they held onto for the victory.
Brad Barone (2-0-0) stopped 24 of 26 shots against to pick up the victory. Sean Bonar (3-1-0) took the loss after turning aside 23 of 27 shots against.
The RiverKings went 2-3 with the man-advantage. The FireAntz were held to one goal on six power play opportunities.
The RiverKings return home next weekend for a pair of home games including Saturday night's Go Jim Go Night benefiting Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. For ticket information, visit RiverKings.com or call 662-342-1755.
