PENSACOLA, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2016) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (1-2-1) saw their third period comeback attempt fall short as the Columbus Cottonmouths (2-2-0) escaped the Hangar with a 7-4 win.

The Ice Flyers jumped out to the 1-0 lead when Josh Cousineau scored his second goal of the season. Brandon Lubin had the only assist on the goal that came 6:02 into the game. With the Cottonmouths' Craig Simchuk in the box for tripping, Corey Banfield stretched the Ice Flyers' lead to 2-0. Zach Loesch and Aaron Clarke had the helpers on the power play goal that came just three seconds before the midway point of the period. Columbus' Corey Tyrell scored an unassisted goal almost five minutes later that made it a 2-1 game in favor of the Ice Flyers. The Cottonmouths' Petr Senkerik jumped on a rebound of a Cody Castro shot to tie the game at two apiece.

Columbus successfully took the lead when David Watt scored 6:40 into the second. Then, just 12 seconds later, the Snakes' Riley Spraggs made it 4-2. After that goal, Drew Fielding came into the game in relief of Matt Zenzola. Columbus made it 5-2 with a power play goal scored by Watt with 4:44 left in the second.

Spraggs scored his second of the game to put the Cottonmouths up 6-4 a mere 44 seconds into the third. The Ice Flyers comeback attempt started to gain traction when Josh Cousineau skated down the right wing boards and fired a sharp angled snapshot over Brandon Jaeger's shoulder. Austin McKay and Brandon Blair assisted on the goal with 11:19 left in the third. Less than three minutes later, Cousineau centered a pass to a crashing Blair who then redirected the puck past Jaeger. McKay had the second assist on the goal. The dagger came when Keegan Bruce scored an empty net, power play goal with 45 seconds left to push it to 7-4 for Columbus.

Zenzola stopped 11 of the 15 shots he faced in 26:53 of game action while Fielding stopped 17 of 19 and was the goalie of record, picking up the loss.

The Ice Flyers will hit the road once again next weekend as they travel up to Peoria, Ill. to take on the Peoria Rivermen in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. both nights. Fans can watch both games at SPHLLive.com.
