Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem were shutout for the second straight night, as the Knoxville Ice Bears beat the Mayhem 4-0.
The Mayhem put 19 shots on Ice Bears goaltender Dylan Wells in the first period, while Knoxville put six shots on Jordan Ruby, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
In the second period, Knoxville exploded for three goals, all on the power play. The first was scored by Berkley Scott at the 2:30 mark in the second, and Jason Price followed that up 11 minutes later to stretch the lead to 2-0. With 1:30 left in the second, Trevor Hertz blasted a one-timer home on the five-on-three to make it a 3-0 game. Defenseman John Rey assisted on all three goals in the period.
At the 12:45 mark in the third period, Kyle McNeil scored on a breakaway to stretch the lead to 4-0. Despite putting 43 shots on Wells, the Mayhem were kept off the scoreboard and lost by final score of 4-0.
"We definitely have a lot of things to work on moving forward," said Head Coach Kevin Kerr. "We took two big losses in what was the biggest weekend of the year so far. So, we'll go back to work this week and try to bounce back next weekend against Pensacola."
NOTABLE STATS
The Mayhem took their third straight regulation loss of the season and their fourth-straight of any variety. The team still sits in second place but just one point ahead of Knoxville at 18-6-4.
In his return to the lineup, Jordan Ruby saved 33 of the 37 shots he faced, and he now moves to 8-3-2 on the season.
The Mayhem power play went 0-5 tonight, and they have not scored in their last 23 power play chances.
"The power play is definitely something we need to work on this week," said Kerr. "Special teams can completely change the outcome of a game, and you saw that here tonight. They converted on a few of their power play chances and we didn't. That made a huge difference in the game."
The Macon Mayhem returns home on Friday, January 27th against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Single game tickets are on sale through the Macon Coliseum Box Office, and group tickets are available through the Macon Mayhem Front Office.
