Mississippi RiverKings News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Tyler Barr had a goal and an assist and Brad Barone made 35 saves as the Mississippi RiverKings (17-11-2) hold off the Evansville Thunderbolts (9-17-4) 3-2 in Evansville on Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings took the lead early in the second. Brantley Sherwood pushed a puck past Tanner Milliron 3:39 into the second period to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Just under two minutes later, the RiverKings struck again when Dillon Fox slid the puck between the legs of Milliron, giving the RiverKings a 2-0 lead.
A late-period penalty gave the Thunderbolts an opportunity and they converted. A shot from the blueline deflected off the stick of Dave Williams and past Brad Barone to cut the RiverKings' lead to 2-1 going into the third.
In the last period of regulation, the RiverKings added to their lead. After killing off their third penalty of the period, Tyler Barr lead a 3-on-1 and wristed a shot through the five-hole of Milliron to give the RiverKings a 3-1 lead.
The two-goal lead would not last long. Less than 90 seconds later, John Scorcia jammed a loose puck past an outstretched Barone, cutting the RiverKings' lead back down to 3-2, but the RiverKings held on to snap a three game losing streak on the road.
Brad Barone (9-7-2) stopped 35 shots against in the win. Tanner Milliron (7-9-1) took the loss after making 43 saves.
The RiverKings were held scoreless on four power play opportunities, while holding Evansville to one goal on seven chances with the man advantage.
The RiverKings return home to the Landers Center this Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m for Elvis Night for a rematch against the Thunderbolts. For tickets and more details, call 662-342-1755 or visit RiverKings.com.
