Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 21, 2017) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (10-12-5) used two first period goals and an empty netter in the third to down the Fayetteville FireAntz (14-11-1) by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night inside Crown Coliseum.
The Ice Flyers opened the scoring when Roger Tagoona scored his second goal of the season a mere 1:44 into the first period. Tagoona gathered a rebound of a Nathan Bruyere shot and quickly put it back home. Bruyere had the lone assist on the goal. Riley Spraggs scored his ninth goal in 10 games with the Ice Flyers when he chased down a loose puck and caught FireAntz goalie Sean Bonar off guard with a wrist shot 6:03 into the first for an unassisted goal.
After a scoreless second, the Antz were able to cut into the Ice Flyers' lead when Joe Harcharik netted a power play goal just 2:39 into the third period. With only 55 seconds remaining in the third, Patrick Megannety scored an empty netter to make it 3-1 Ice Flyers. With Sean Bonar still on the bench for an extra attacker, Chase Nieuwendyk scored with 24 seconds remaining but it didn't matter in the end.
John McLean stopped 21 of the 23 shots that Fayetteville put on goal.
