Macon Mayhem News Release

LAST GAME PLAYED: The Mayhem were defeated in their last game, as they fell to the Peoria Rivermen 6-3 on Sunday. Birmingham won their last game, as they defeated the Pensacola Ice Flyers at home by score of 5-3 on Tuesday.

SCOUTING THE BULLS: Birmingham has been one of the hottest teams in the league over the past 10 games, and it has helped them climb into playoff position. Over this impressive 10 game stretch, Birmingham has scored 3.50 goals per game - up from their 2.54 season average - and allowed just 2.60 goals per game - down from their season average of 3.33. Jacob Barber has been an impressive pickup for the team, as he has six goals and one assist in six games for the Bulls. They have been struck again by an ECHL call-up, as starting goaltender Mavric Parks has been loaned to the Kansas City Mavericks. It is his second ECHL stint in the month of February, and in 29 games for Birmingham this season, he is 8-16-4 with a 3.12 goals against average (GAA) and .916 save percentage (SV%).

TALE OF TWO TEAMS: These two teams have been trending in different directions from each other and from the majority of the season in recent games.

The fourth-place Mayhem have dropped three of their last five games, while the eighth-place Bulls have been on fire lately. They are on a five-game winning streak - their longest of the season - and are 7-2-1 over their last 10 games.

ECHL REINFORCEMENTS: The Mayhem got help from the ECHL this week, as Jake Trask, Daniel Gentzler and Brandon Pfeil all returned from their short loans to the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL. Macon also welcomes Stathis Soumelidis back to the lineup, as he returns from loan to the Adirondack Thunder.

Soumelidis was loaned to Adirondack on January 17th and spent eight games up with the Thunder, recording one assist and 10 penalty minutes. The team did, however, lose Daniel Echeverri to the ECHL, as he was loaned to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on February 13th .

MACON GLADIATORS: The Mayhem had five players on loan to the Atlanta Gladiators when they faced off against Daniel Echeverri, Greg Dodds, and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Tuesday. All five Mayhem players started for Atlanta; Trask, Gentzler, and Stephen Pierog started at forward, while Pfeil and Eric Shand started at defense. Gentzler scored his first career ECHL goal in the contest and added an assist, while Trask, Pfeil, Pierog and Shand were all pluses in the plus-minus department. Pierog and Shand remain on loan to the Gladiators.

BACK IN ACTION: The boys in navy and red travel to Knoxville on Saturday to take on the Knoxville Ice Bears. The next time they are at home at the Macon Coliseum in Thursday, March 1st against that same Knoxville squad.
