LAST TIME OUT: Eric Witzel notched two goals and an assist, Brad Barone made 19 saves on 20 shots and Daniel Vernace had a goal and two assists as the Rail Yard Dawgs clobbered the Knoxville Ice Bears, 5-1, Saturday night at Berglund Center.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING!: Roanoke's win over Knoxville on Saturday was its fourth in a row, giving the Dawgs their longest winning streak in franchise history.
HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: The Rail Yard Dawgs have been stellar on home ice since the calendar flipped to 2018, going 6-2-0 in their eight home games thus far. During the 2017 portion of the season, Roanoke was just 3-9-1 at Berglund Center.
WE ARE ALL WITZ-NESSES: Eric Witzel put up five goals and two assists over the Dawgs three wins last weekend and for his efforts was named the SPHL's player of the week. Witzel now has goals in four straight games and has put up six goals and two assists over that stretch. In 13 games since joining the Dawgs he has seven goals and three assists.
BRAD TO THE BONE: Brad Barone made 19 saves on 20 shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over Knoxville, continuing a recent trend of strong play. In his last four appearances, Barone is 3-1-0 with a 0.77 GAA and .977 SV%. He has stopped 101 of 104 shots faced in that stretch.
STRONG UNDER BREMNER: Roanoke's win on Saturday pushed its record under head coach Dan Bremner to 10-8-1.
ADVANCED SCOUTING: Huntsville enters the weekend having played strong hockey as of late. The Havoc are 9-3-2 in their last 14 games and sit alone in third in the SPHL. Huntsville's power play is the best in the league at 24.3% but on the flip side, it has the worst penalty kill in the league at 76.4%. The Havoc are led offensively by Sy Nutkevitch (14 G, 28 A) and Christian Powers (19 G, 17 A).
IN THE TRANSACTIONS: The Rail Yard Dawgs got some help back form the ECHL on Thursday when Mitchell Mueller was returned from loan to the Norfolk Admirals. Mueller had been with Norfolk since being called up on December 19. He has four goals and five assists in 16 games with the Dawgs. He takes the spot of John Gustafsson, who was placed on injured reserve on Thursday. Gustafsson has 13 goals and 5 assists over 35 games this season. In a separate transaction, Roanoke activated Anthony Parisi off injured reserve on Sunday and then placed him on waivers.
