PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Force will be strong at Tradition Field on Saturday with a variety of community events, baseball, Star Wars and fireworks.
The St. Lucie Mets host the Bradenton Marauders at 6:30 p.m. but the game is just single part of the big day.
Saturday's festivities start early with the St. Lucie County Reading Festival and the St. Lucie County Safety Festival. Both events begin at 9 a.m. The Reading Festival is hosted inside Tradition Field and will feature literacy events such as interactive puppet shows, book exchange, Scholastic Book Fair, literacy games and author visits. The concession stands will be open and the festival is free to all families. It ends at 1 p.m.
The Safety Festival will take place in the main parking lot and run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature all things safety related: home, driver, water, bike, pedestrian, pet, ID, school, hurricane safety and more. There will be SWAT Team, K-9 and burn unit-fire demonstrations. The first 1,000 kids receive a free beach ball.
The Safety Event is also free. Food trucks will be parked in the lot as well.
The Mets will be hosting a special Star Wars Night. Players will wear Star Wars rebel jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds go to M.E.'s Team Foundation which supports the well-being of children on the Treasure Coast.
All fans are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Star Wars gear. Star Wars characters will be in attendance and all music and on-field games will have a Star Wars twist.
Adult fans can enjoy the Blue Point Brewing Special. For $15 get a game ticket and all-you-can-drink Blue Point from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Immediately following the game there will be a dazzling fireworks display sure to be the best on the Treasure Coast.
