Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
TAMPA, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (8-6) used six runs in the first three innings to earn an 8-4 victory over the Tampa Yankees (8-6) and even up this three game series at a game apiece. RF Jonathan Davis contributed a two-RBI double and an RBI-triple while the offense as a whole took advantage of four Tampa errors. The Blue Jays also took advantage of nine Yankee walks while stealing a season high eight bases on Wednesday night.
For the second night in a row, the Blue Jays started the scoring in the first inning by loading the bases before recording an out. 1B Ryan McBroom reached on an error by 2B Abiatal Avelino to plate one, and 3B Emilio Guerrero's ground out brought another run in.
Tampa came right back in the bottom of the first with speedsters SS Jorge Mateo and Avelino, each reaching base and flying around the bases to tie the game.
With one down in the third for Dunedin, C Mike Reeves drove in his first run of the season on a line drive double to the gap in right-centerfield. Three batters later, Davis produced his double to put the jays up 6-2. RHP Gabriel Encinas (L, 0-2) couldn't get out of the second inning for Tampa after walking six Blue Jays.
LHP Juliandry Higuera was effective in his 3.1 innings, but didn't last long enough to earn the win. Higuera surrendered two runs on two hits while RHP Carlos Ramirez (W, 1-0) swooped in to earn the win in relief, giving up a run over 2.2 innings. RHP Adonys Cardona, LHP Tim Mayza and LHP Matt Dermody took care of the final three innings to seal up the win.
The Jays and Yankees dual in the rubber match on Thursday with top pitching prospect RHP James Kaprielian going for Tampa. RHP Kyle Westwood makes his second start of the year for Dunedin.
