Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Ranfi Casimiro delivered his second-straight shutout performance, leading the Clearwater Threshers to a 1-0 win and a series sweep of the Daytona Tortugas on Thursday night at Bright House Field.

Casimiro (3-0) has not permitted a run in his last 15 innings of work.

The right-hander held Daytona (5-10) to just three hits and a pair of walks across six scoreless innings, while racking up six strikeouts.

Cord Sandberg finished 2-for-3 for his fourth-straight multi-hit performance, completing a 7-for-10 series against Daytona.

With the game still scoreless, the only real trouble spot for Casimiro came in the sixth.

Garrett Boulware led off the frame with a walk, and Jonathan Reynoso followed with a single to left. Blake Trahan laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both into scoring position.

Casimiro bared down, and induced a huge strikeout of Ty Washington on a slider for out number two. After a walk to Brian O'Grady, Taylor Sparks hit a soft comebacker to Casimiro for the final out of the frame.

Clearwater (10-5) took advantage of a defensive miscue to plate the game's only run in the bottom half.

With one out facing starter Tejay Antone (1-1), Sandberg looped a single to center field. Carlos Tocci then sent a bouncer to short that resulted in a force of Sandberg at second, but Washington's turn to first sailed into the Tortugas dugout for a error, allowing Tocci to take second.

Kyle Martin stepped up and lined the first pitch he saw the opposite way into left for a single, sending Tocci racing around third and in to score the only run of the night.

Alexis Rivero tossed two scoreless in relief, while Victor Arano worked around a one-out single in the ninth to earn his first save.

The Threshers have won seven of their last eight games, and look to keep rolling as they open a three-game series with the Brevard County Manatees on Friday. It's the debut of Free-Shirt Fridays as well as Country Night at Bright House Field, with a post-game performance by Easy Posse.

Elniery Garcia (2-0) takes the hill against Brandon Woodruff (1-1), with first pitch at 6:15 p.m. The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6 p.m.
