Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Charlotte Stone Crabs have seen incredibly dominant pitching in 2016. And there's a good chance they haven't seen a performance as good as Greg Harris's all season.
Harris (2-1) was nigh-unhittable on Wednesday night, tossing seven shutout innings and powering the Stone Crabs to a 4-0 victory over the Mets in front of 621 fans at Tradition Field. Charlotte has won seven out of nine games, and is two games over .500 for the first time this year.
It was a scintillating performance for Harris from the get-go. The right-hander, acquired from the Dodgers in November 2014, retired the first and last seven men to face him and saw the minimum in five of his seven innings pitched. Harris was so efficient, throwing only 83 pitches through his seven frames, that the final game time of 2:08 was the second-shortest the Stone Crabs have played all season.
The offense did plenty to help lift the Crabs to victory as well with a huge third inning against Mets starter Chris Flexen (0-3). Bralin Jackson led off the inning with a double, and Cade Gotta followed with an infield hit to put runners on the corners with no one out. Alec Sole built off Tuesday night's 3-for-4 with an RBI single to right-center that plated Jackson to make it 1-0.
Riley Unroe walked to load the bases, but Thomas Milone's soft grounder to the mound forced out Gotta at home. Not to fear, though; the assembly line began to churn after that. Cristian Toribio, Mac James, and Grant Kay all singled in succession to score Sole, Unroe, and Milone, respectively, and break the game open. Harris took care of the rest.
Sole finished with another three-hit night, his second straight, while Unroe and James had two base knocks apiece. Brian Miller closed out the game on the hill with two shutout innings.
The Stone Crabs look for their first sweep of the year on Thursday night, when RHP Chris Pike (0-1, 1.54) opposes Mets RHP Corey Oswalt (1-0, 5.19). The Stone Crabs return home next Tuesday, April 26, starting a nine-game homestand. For tickets, call 941-206-HITS, visit stonecrabsbaseball.com, or head to the FCB Box Office.
