Kansas City Mavericks News Release
Missouri takes a 20-hour bus ride to south Texas to take on the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for the final two games of Missouri's nine-game road trip. The Mavericks and Bees are each coming off consecutive wins. Missouri (2-5-0) won a pair of games over Wichita last weekend, and the Bees (3-3-0) beat Amarillo and Laredo respectively. This weekend's games are two of three games between the Bees and Mavericks this season. Rio Grande Valley will travel to Missouri on March 2, 2010 for the only game between the two teams at Independence Events Center.

Tuesday, October 27 - Missouri 1 at Odessa 8
The Missouri Mavericks lost their fifth straight game Tuesday night, 8-1, to the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. Collin Circelli, Paul Kelly and Kory Korlander all scored two goals for Odessa and seven players had multiple points in the game. The Jackalopes scored seven goals in the final two periods and four in the third period to run away with the victory. Mavericks' player/assistant coach Jeff Christian scored Missouri's lone goal of the game. Missouri will head home for a couple days before playing a pair of games this weekend in Wichita. In a pre-game ceremony, Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman was honored by the Jackalopes. Missouri's head coach played eight seasons with Odessa and is the team's all-time leader in games played (446).
Friday, October 30 - Missouri 6 at Wichita 1
The Missouri Mavericks earned their first win in franchise history Friday night with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder at Kansas Coliseum. The Mavericks scored six unanswered goals from six different players and goaltender Doug Groenestege stopped 25 of 26 shots for his first win of the season. Player/assistant coach Jeff Christian led all players with a goal and two assists, and Missouri killed all nine of Wichita's power plays for the win.
Saturday, October 31 - Missouri 2 at Wichita 0
The Missouri Mavericks shutout the Wichita Thunder, 2-0, Saturday night at Kansas Coliseum for the team's second win in as many nights over the Thunder. After allowing just one goal Friday night, Mavericks' goaltender Doug Groenestege stopped all 21 shots faced for his first shutout of the season. Forward Chad Hinz provided all of the offense in the game and scored both goals for the Mavericks who have just two games left on the team's nine-game road trip to start the season. Groenestege is now 8-0-0 all-time against the Thunder including two shutouts, and the Mavericks are now 2-5-0 and tied with Wichita (2-5-0) for sixth place in the Northern Conference.
Notes
Grand Opening - We are now less than a week from the Grand Opening of the Independence Events Center! The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 7 and is open to the public. There will be a performance by the Truman High School Trutones followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony. Doors open to the general public immediately following the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The first 1,000 visitors will receive a ski cap souvenir and all others will receive commemorative tickets.
Box Office Now Open - The box office at Independence Events Center is officially open! Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday game days. Tickets start at just $12 and are still available for opening weekend but going fast.
More New Faces - The Mavericks signed a pair of players this week and both entered the lineup upon arriving in Missouri. Forward Brett Hammond and defenseman Blake Cosgrove both played in Wichita and Hammond had one assist in each of the games against the Thunder. Hammond played with the Colorado Eagles last season while Cosgrove played the last four years at Northern Michigan University.
Pair of Wins - Missouri won their first two games of the season this weekend over the Wichita Thunder. After allowing the first goal on Friday night, Missouri did not allow another Thunder goal. The Mavericks outscored Wichita 8-0 over the two games after allowing the first goal.
497 and counting - Mavericks player/assistant coach Jeff Christian is just three goals shy of 500 for his career. The 20-year pro has 1,160 points (497-663=1160) in 1,204 games played in his career. This is Christian's fourth season in the CHL. He was the league's MVP for the 2006-07 season.
Shutout Streak - The Mavericks have not allowed a goal in the last 155:14. It is the longest shutout streak of the season.
