Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are in the midst of a number of community-related appearances and activities during the early stages of the new Central Hockey League season. Last week the Mudbugs teamed with Community Renewal International to visit students at Queensborough Elementary School in Shreveport, and yesterday Mudbugs staff members participated in a "Bowl-A-Thon" in Bossier City to help raise money for the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Last Tuesday, Mudbugs players Tysen Dowzak, Jeff MacDermid, Kirk Medernach and Mike Salekin and Head Coach Scott Muscutt spent a few hours with the students of Queensborough Elementary. The players read books to first and second-grade classes and met with third, fourth and fifth-grade classes to talk about the importance of staying off drugs during "Say NO to Drugs Week."

Officers from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office were also at the school to talk about bicycle safety and to hand out free bike helmets to the students. The players then autographed the helmets as they were passed out for the kids to take home. The visit was coordinated by Community Renewal International,

a nonprofit effort to restore safe and healthy communities through caring relationships. Visit their website at www.sbcr.us for more information.

Yesterday afternoon, members of the Mudbugs front office staff fielded a team in the local MDA "Bowl-A-Thon" at Holiday Lanes in Bossier City to help "Strike Out Muscular Dystrophy." The nation-wide event was put on by Branch 197 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and raised money for the fight against MD right here in our community through the Ark-La-Tex Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Mudbugs collected donations over the past two weeks and also contributed tickets and merchandise as raffle items during yesterday's events. The "Gutter Bugs" bowling team joined 21 other teams during the three-hour event yesterday to help support the cause. For more information about how to contribute, visit www.mda.org.

The Mudbugs are back at the CenturyTel Center this weekend for a pair of home games against the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 pm both Friday and Saturday night. Season tickets, mini-plans and group packages are still available, so call (318) 752-BUGS or stop by the team office inside CenturyTel Center for more information.

Season and group tickets are on sale by calling 318-752-BUGS (2847) or by visiting our website at www.mudbugshockey.com.
