Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
LAST WEEK
Friday, October 30 vs. Texas
CenturyTel Center
L 6-4
GAME NOTES: The Brahmas scored two goals in a 35-second span of the third period to break open a tie game and win the first meeting of the year between these two rivals. The teams traded goals throughout the game, and the Mudbugs' Shawn Limpright had tied it at three at 7:37 of the third period before the two-goal flurry that put Texas on top to stay. Brett Smith and Joe Zappala each had a goal and an assist in the losing effort, while Ken Carroll made 28 saves.
Saturday, October 31 at Mississippi
DeSoto Civic Center
W 2-1
GAME NOTES: For the third straight week, the Mudbugs followed up a home loss on Friday with a road win on Saturday, this time in Mississippi. Jeff Kyrzakos, playing in just his second game with Bossier-Shreveport, scored both of the team's goals in the contest. The first came on the powerplay and gave the 'Bugs a 1-0 first period lead, while the second broke a 1-1 third period tie and helped give the Mudbugs their third straight road victory. John Decaro stopped 29 shots and moved to 3-1-0 for the season.
THIS WEEK
Fri. Nov. 6 and Sat. Nov. 7 vs. Odessa
CenturyTel Center
7:05 pm
GAME NOTES: This weekend the Mudbugs will host back-to-back home games for the first time this year as they face off with Odessa on Friday and Saturday night. The 'Bugs are 1-0 against the Jackalopes this season after a dramatic come-from-behind shootout victory in Odessa on October 24. The Mudbugs will be looking for their first home victory of the season against the Jackalopes, whose 5-1-1 record puts them in first place in the Southern Conference entering this week.
Sunday, November 8 at Texas
NyTex Sports Centre
4:05 pm
GAME NOTES: The 'Bugs will cap off their first three-in-three weekend of the year on Sunday afternoon at Texas. The defending Champion Brahmas came to Bossier City last Friday night and handed the Mudbugs a 6-4 loss in the first meeting of the year between the teams, who will clash a total of eight times this season. The Mudbugs have gone 3-3-4 at the NyTex Sports Centre over the past two seasons.
WEEKLY NOTES
Riding the Roller Coaster This year the Mudbugs have alternated wins and losses through their first six games of the season for the first time in franchise history to hold a 3-3-0 overall record. The pattern for each week thus far has been eerily similar: a Friday night home loss followed by a one-goal road victory on Saturday. This week will finally change the team's weekly schedule, as the 'Bugs will play their first three-in-three weekend of the year. The team will host Odessa at home on Friday and Saturday before going to Texas to face the Brahmas on Sunday afternoon.
The Road Warriors The Mudbugs are one of just two CHL teams with at least three road wins already this year. Allen, who has yet to play a home game, is a league-best 4-0-1 on the road after three weeks of competition. The Mudbugs and Colorado Eagles (who have not yet played a road game) are the only teams in the league who have not yet lost a game away from home.
Simon's Scoring Streak Mudbugs defenseman Simon Mangos leads the team in scoring with seven points so far this year, all of which have come during a current five-game scoring streak. The second-year Mudbug has one goal and six assists over his past five contests to pace the team offensively. Joe Zappala isn't far behind though, averaging exactly one point-per-game with three goals and three assists this year. Last year Mangos was second among Mudbugs defensemen with 30 points (8g, 22a).
Making an Entrance Mudbugs forward Jeff Kyrzakos made quite an impact in his first two games as a Mudbug last weekend. The fourth-year pro had his immigration status approved just in time to make it into the lineup on Friday night. Although he didn't record a point against Texas, the 6-2, 200-pounder saw significant playing time and provided a physical presence with a few big hits. Kyrzakos then scored both Mudbugs goals in Saturday's 2-1 win over Mississippi, including the third period game-winner that put the 'Bugs ahead 2-1 just minutes after the RiverKings had tied the game.
Owning Odessa The Mudbugs' October 24 rally from a three-goal deficit to beat Odessa 5-4 in a shootout pushed Bossier-Shreveport's winning streak to 11 consecutive games over the Jackalopes. The 'Bugs have not lost to Odessa since December 21, 2002, and it's been even longer since the Jackalopes won a game in regulation in Bossier City: January 7, 2001. That was during the final year of the WPHL before its merger with the CHL and the year in which the Mudbugs won their third consecutive President's Cup Championship.
Loose Pucks Shawn Limpright scored his first goal as a Mudbug on Friday and then chipped in his first assist with the club on Saturday... Tysen Dowzak recorded his first professional point with an assist on Saturday in Mississippi... Saturday's win over the RiverKings was the first time this season the 'Bugs have led a game after two periods...
