Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced Tuesday the team has traded forward Lachlan MacIntosh to the Allen Americans in exchange for defenseman Steve Kaunisto and goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson.

"It is always tough to see a player leave your locker room, but to be able to pick up a quality defenseman who skates very well and can also add some needed offensive punch to our blue line and a goaltender in this time of need is very important to us," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "This week is our first three games in three nights set, including a ten hour trip to and from Dayton, Ohio to start the weekend. This is the perfect time to add to our blue line and also add a very qualified goaltender to replace the injured Gerry Festa. We are very happy to add Steven and Brian to our lineup and we thank Lachlan for his efforts and wish him great success."

Kaunisto, 25 (10/12/86), is in his second professional season and played in 10 games with the Americans this season. The Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan native had five points on one goal and four assists and a +6 plus/minus rating with Allen. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman played his rookie season with the CHL's Wichita Thunder last year where he recorded 20 points (5-1520) in 62 games played. Prior to turning pro, Kaunisto competed for Lake Superior State University for four seasons. He was picked up by the ECHL's Reading Royals after his senior year and played in four games for the Royals. In total, Kaunisto has played in 76 professional games and has 27 points (7-2027) and a +18 rating.

Mahoney-Wilson, 25 (4/7/86), was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the ninth round (288th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The first-year pro has played in four games with the Allen Americans this season and is 3-1-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. A native of West Roxbury, Massachusetts, Mahoney-Wilson played with Kaunisto at Lake Superior State University where he finished with a 27-40-15 record and had a .905 save percentage in four seasons. In his four games with the Americans, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound goaltender allowed just one goal on two separate occasions and a total of just 10 goals in four games. He will be on a five-game contract to start with the Mavericks.

MacIntosh, 25 (12/9/85), is in his rookie season and played in 11 games with the Mavericks and had three assists. Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 189-pound forward played five seasons and won three national championships with the University of New Brunswick.

The Mavericks will take on the Dayton Gems for three games in three nights starting on Thursday night. Missouri will travel to Dayton on December 1 before a pair of games at Independence Events Center on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and 3. Tickets for all regular season games are on sale now via Ticketmaster. Call (816) 252-7825 for more information or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com .
