Wichita Thunder News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO- The Wichita Thunder lost 5-3 to the Missouri Mavericks at the Independence Events Center on Tuesday night.
The Mavericks overcame a pair of one-goal deficits during a three-goal second period that tipped the game in Missouri's favor. With the Mavericks down 1-0, Ryan Jardine tied the game at 1:55 during a three-on-two rush. Troy Schwab helped Wichita re-gain the lead at 3:57, carrying the puck around the net and shooting past Nolan's left. But Missouri tied it at 4:41 on a power play goal from Brandon Coccimiglio, who snuck a rebound under Marc-Antoine Gelinas' right pad, and then took their first lead of the game at 9:00 on Jardine's second goal of the period.
Mike Berry converted a penalty shot 8:14 in the third to make it 4-2 Mavericks. Berry was ruled to have been hauled down driving to the net before crashing into Marc-Antoine Gelinas. Berry scored on a wristshot to Gelinas' left. Dustin Donaghy cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal from the high slot at 9:22, but Todd Griffith scored on an empty net with 44 seconds left to close out the game.
A.J. Gale supplied the first goal of the night during a Thunder power play at 2:19 in the first. Brent Cullaton passed to Gale who worked around the crease before shooting past the blocker side of Mavericks' goaltender Rob Nolan.
Gelinas saved 20 of 24 in the loss. Nolan was 33 of 36 in the win. Cullaton and Schwab each had two points. Wichita was 1 for 3 on the power play. Missouri was 1 for 4.
