Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks came out on top of their Friday night contest against the Allen Americans, never forfeiting the lead to the Americans once through 60 minutes of play. Goaltender Shane Owen made 27 saves to keep the Mavs alive to secure a 3-1 victory.
The Mavericks held onto a 2-0 lead through the first two periods of the night, first leading 1-0 at the end of the first after a goal from the new "900 Club" member, Sebastien Thinel, lit the lamp with a goal assisted by Andrew Courtney and Eric Castonguay, then later doubling their efforts with a goal from Eric Castonguay. Andrew Courtney tallied his second point of the night with a helper on Castonguay's tally midway through the second period.
The Allen Americans finally put a mark on the board around the halfway point of the final frame as Greger Hanson added his name to the score sheet. The Mavericks held on to their 2-1 lead until the final seconds of play, when John-Scott Dickson tapped in an easy empty-netter to bump Missouri up 3-1 for the final score.
The Mavericks were 5 for 5 on the penalty kill Friday night, denying Allen on each of their man-advantaged situations.
Colt King and Garrett Klotz were each sent from the ice by official Jake Brenk at the 14:19 mark of the third period, after a big rumble on the ice. A highlight fans will want to watch again and again. Klotz was handed 2 minutes for kneeing and 5 minutes for fighting while Colt King was given 5 minutes for fighting plus a 10 minute misconduct.
The Mavericks play their next game at home on Tuesday, March 11th against the Rapid City Rush at 7:05pm at the Independence Events Center. It's a Price Chopper 2 for Tuesday! 2 for 1 tickets are available online at TicketMaster.com using offer code "CHOPPER" and in person at the box office with your Chopper Shopper card.
