INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI - The Missouri Mavericks closed their 3-game weekend series against the Indy Fuel with a 3-2 win-sweeping the visiting team with their third 1-goal victory in 3 days. The Mavericks overall record improves to 38-6-2-1 atop the ECHL standings with 79 points.
Josh Robinson earned his 21st consecutive win in-goal for the Mavericks, extending the ECHL record for a single-season goaltender win streak 5 games past the previously held record.
The Mavs and Fuel battled through a scoreless first period, with neither team finding away around their opponent's defense. It would be the Mavs who would strike first, as Sebastien Sylvestre scored his 12th goal of the season with the help of Trevor Ludwig and Reed Seckel 5 minutes into the second period.
Indy answered back to tie the game 1-1 at 8:17 when Ben Marshall bested Robinson between the pipes. Then Andrew Courtney found the back of the net to give the Mavs back the lead they would carry through the remainder of the period at 13:44 while Missouri was skating with a man-advantage. Tyler Barnes and Bryce Aneloski assisted on the play.
Barnes then scored a goal of his own at 13:06 of the third period to raise the Mavs up 3-1 over the Fuel, tapping in a shot from defenseman Matt Finn. Jesse Graham was credited with the secondary assist.
Indy made it a contest again in the final minutes of regulation, pulling within 1-goal of the Mavs at 18:15 when Zach Miskovic scored for the Fuel.
The Mavs held on through the final minutes of the game, edging the visitors 3-2 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The Mavericks play their next game at home on Tuesday, Feb. 16 when they drop the puck against the visiting Tulsa Oilers at 7:05p.m.
Tickets for all Missouri Mavericks home games are available online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
