Allen Americans News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Alaska Aces erased a 4-2 Americans lead scoring three unanswered goals in a 5-4 victory Saturday night at the Sullivan Arena in front of a big crowd of 5,248.
Special teams play was kind to the Americans in the first period. After going down 2-0 to the Aces on goals from Patrick Wellar and Tommaso Traversa, Allen fought their way back into the game before it got out of hand. Justin Courtnall and Chris Crane scored within the last six minutes of the opening frame to tie the affair, 2-2.
Offensively speaking, the second period picked up where the first period left off. Crane picked up his second tally of the night, followed by a goal from Aaron Gens, giving the Americans a 4-2 lead. Much like the Americans in the first period, Alaska was able to fight back into the game with a goal from Peter Sivak late in the period, making the score 4-3 Allen going into the second intermission.
Alaska was able to tie the game on an early third period goal from Felix-Antoine Poulin, knotting things at 4-4. Halfway through the period, David Eddy was the beneficiary on a backdoor passing play to give Alaska the 5-4 lead. Despite the back and forth flow of throughout the entire game, the Americans were unable to surmount the deficit, which held up to be the final score, 5-4 Alaska. The Aces, with the win, captured the three game series with a 2-1 advantage.
The Americans are in Missouri next Friday, February 19th, at 7:05 pm CST. They will take on the league leading Missouri Mavericks.
