Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Alaska Aces lost a 2-0 lead, then came back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat the Allen Americans 5-4 Saturday and take two of the three games in the series.

Patrick Wellar scored his first goal of the season and Tommaso Traversa his 14th of the season to give the Aces their 2-0 cushion in the first period. Special teams then bit the Aces as they surrendered a shorthanded goal to Justin Courtnall, then a power play strike by Chris Crane and the period ended 2-2.

Crane struck again for the Americans in the second as he was credited with a goal after the puck went off the glove hand of Aces defenseman Mitch Jones and past goaltender Troy Redmann. Crane scored 5 goals in 2 games for Allen vs. Alaska Friday and Saturday. Aaron Gens gave the Americans a 4-2 lead with his 6th goal of the season at 13:29.

The Aces comeback began at the 17:02 mark of the second period. Peter Sivak scored on the power play from Felix Poulin and Garrett Haar. The second period ended 4-3 Allen.

In the third, Poulin got his second goal in two games, his fifth of the season from Sivak and Colin Valcourt. The game-winning goal came at 10:50. Tommaso Traversa swung around the Allen net and threaded a perfect pass over to David Eddy who buried the puck into a mostly open net. Eddy's first goal of the season gave the Aces the win and the 2 ECHL points.

Redmann finished with 17 saves for the win, including 2 huge saves in the last couple minutes with the Allen net empty and the extra attacker on. Joel Rumpel made 30 saves for the Americans.

The Aces next play Friday, February 19 at Rapid City.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena on Friday, March 9 against Ft. Wayne.
