Mavericks Stun Sixers for Third Straight Night

Mavericks' starter David Ledbetter was stout for High Desert going six strong innings in a no-decision. The righty allowed four hits and three walks with five Ks. Scott Williams relieved Ledbetter and tossed a perfect seventh.

Inland Empire (28-52, 5-5) received an stellar start from righty Jeremy Rhoades. The Wheaton, IL product gave the Sixers seven shutout innings. He surrenderd just two hits while walking four and fanning four and was perfect through the first three innings, not allowing a hit until the fifth. He hasn't allowed an earned run in his last two outings.

The Sixers broke the scoring seal in the top of the eighth against reliever Nick Gardenwine. David Fletcher led off the frame with a base hit, his second of the night. Wade Wass walked and a single by Taylor Ward loaded the bases with one away. Roberto Baldoquin then chopped a ball to the right side that brought home Fletcher and made it 1-0.

Jordan Piche relieved Rhoades in the eighth and retired the side in order. Gardenwine set the Sixers down in 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth with one out High Desert (48-32, 5-5) catcher Jose Trevino hit a ball in front of home plate that was fielded on one hop by the shortstop in shallow left for a base hit. David Lyon followed and drilled a game-winning walk-off homer to center. The two run shot was Lyon's sixth of the year and secured the 2-1 win for the Mavs. Piche was tagged with the loss and is now 2-5 on the year.
